Ms. Anderson - 5th grade

I completed my Bachelors from Governor State University and my Masters of Education degree from Concordia University where the latter included my major in reading with a concentration of reading specialist/literacy coach. I love teaching and I love children. Knowing that there are many challenges in education, I desire to be one of the solutions by being an asset to district 154.5 and the community at large. I strongly believe students learn best in a balanced environment; indeed, they learn from having a strong content curriculum which includes emphasis on language arts, (including multicultural literature), humanities, math and science. Furthermore, I believe that history should include the accomplishments of all minorities, political science, and geography as these are just as important to our students becoming well developed and perceptive of the world around them.
I am a firm believer that teachers have to teach in differentiated ways with diverse strategies which appeal to the youth of today; technology with a hands-on approach should be used often.  I bring to the classroom the gifts of a nurturer with my educational and life experiences; I include character education and values in my procedures raising the bar of expectations for my students. Consequently, I believe in establishing a community of excellers; therefore, I encourage students to have integrity, respect, courage, and compassion for their fellow man. This philosophy will help students prepare to be effective citizens.
